Who am I

Originally from East Ottawa, I first gained my independence by working for the Federal Government.  My spare time was spent in the study of Black and White photography at Algonquin College. This is where my journey through street photography began, under the tutelage of renowned Canadian photographer David Barbour.

a Biography

Inspired by American Photographer Nan Goldin, I began to explore human emotion, individual behaviours and personal state of minds. I became increasingly devoted to expressing my perspectives of the characters that surrounded me and the life experiences they faced.  In 2003, I took my first painting class at the Ottawa School of Arts where I discovered my ability to reproduce color and light through the manipulation of paint.

A few years later, after an inspirational meeting with David Barbour, I left my position as a civil servant and dedicated myself to full time studies at the Ottawa School of Arts while exploring my artistic ideas as a henna artist at local street markets and the Ottawa Blues Festival.  I completed a portfolio program and entered the restaurant industry in order to support myself and fulfill my love for the public.

In 2006, I found my artistic home in Montreal, and have been creating and changing ever since.  Initially an acrylic painter, I quickly traded water for oil in 2007.  Currently completing a double major in Art History and Studio Arts at Concordia University, I continue to juggle my passion for people, photography and painting.

Constantly attempting to convey the beauty within human differences, I often dive heart first into any situation where human connections are possible; at times capturing these connections through the art of portraiture.

One winter day in 2006, I passed by the Upstairs Jazz Bar and discovered my true partner: the sound of instrumental music and specifically Jazz.  I believe that the energy of Jazz, especially Live Jazz  feed my ideas of painting.  That the cries of the saxophones, the soul of the double bass, the serenity of the piano and the sensuality of the drums layer my paintings like a thread sewing through the canvas.

Through the sound of Jazz, I have also had the advantage to meet, befriend, love, connect and surround myself with the many characters that stem from the Montreal Jazz Scene.  Some of which I have had the opportunity to paint and photograph.

Continuing in this direction, I would like to expose my work for everyone to see. Please take the time to go through my pictures!
